Naija Smartphonomics: The Economics Of Buying A Smart Phone In Nigeria
The Nigerian telephone market has come a long way. From the
era of “Poor people don’t need telephones” to the present “everyone deserves a
smart phone” era.
Mobile phones with operating systems like BB OS, iOS,
Windows Phone and SYMBIAN were off the range for most low income earners; but along
came Android OS and the smart phone market was liberated and became
proliferated. Low income and minimum wage earners are now proud owners of low
‘low-budget’ smart phones that work.
Despite this liberation and proliferation, buying a
low-budget phone is not easy as it seems, as many potential smart phone buyers
find themselves in a dilemma of which smart phones to buy. It is not uncommon
to see posts on internet forums (like Nairaland.com) eliciting suggestions from
members on which phone to purchase with a particular income range or to help
choose between two alternatives.
The purpose of this piece is to highlight some factors to
consider when buying a smart phone. These factors are listed below.

Reasons Your Relatives Can’t Help You Get A Job Where They Work
Reasons Your Relatives Can’t Help You Get A Job Where They Work.
We all have relatives working in big establishments both
government and private and as a job seeker you might be amazed and even
agitated that your aunt or uncle working in that MNC isn’t helping you get a
job in his/her firm. My job search lasted 9 months and in that time I expected
my aunt (who works in the HR Department at Chevron Nigeria) to help me get a
job there, but no show. It baffled me that I was connected, but cannot
download.lol
Anyways, I got a job and being employed has exposed me to
quite a number of reasons why your relatives can’t help you get a job where
they work. Ceteris Paribus, they are;

Model CV formats in Nigeria allows for prejudice and discrimination
Hello people, i spent almost 12 months studying the
Nigerian job market and gathering job search related knowledge, so i have some
expertise in CV writing. After publishing my book, i began offering FREE CV
makeovers, and with that my skill improved.
Today a friend told me how a UK M.Sc student saw his CV
and asked for a makeover also. He sent his first draft and the first thing i
noticed was that there wasn’t a section for personal information like age, sex,
religion, nationality etc Yes, i know European countries frown at prejudice and
discrimination hence do not attach age and gender requirements to jobs unlike
Nigerian companies (mostly banks), i didn’t know that such information doesn’t
reflect on their resumes.

Dear Job-seeker, Display The Right Attitude…Everywhere You Go!
A university degree is not as ‘valuable’
as it used to be and everyone is trainable. In an era when a Ph.D holder can
apply for a driving position in Dangote, then you know you need more than a
degree. Richard Branson in his book, Business Stripped Bare said; “I hire for
attitude and train for skill.” Anybody can learn a skill, but not everyone has
the right attitude. Employers are always on the lookout for people with certain
attitudes. This attitude can be observed and evaluated during job interviews……or
even on the street. In my book The Job
Seekers’ Creed™, i shared the story of how a friend got a job with Guarantee Trust
Bank because he purchased bread for a stranger in traffic. Read an excerpt;
