Gamification And Social HR: Twitter User Gets Internship With Oando PLC

I first heard about the application of Gamification to HR at the Human Capital Summit Africa event i attended earlier this year.  Gamification in HR is the use of game-thinking and game mechanics in recruitment, training and development, and motivation, while Social HR is the use of social media platforms for HR functions. These two concepts are popular among companies targeting millennials.

This morning i stumbled on a news report on how a young Nigerian got an Internship with Oando through Gamification and Social HR.

Olayinka Fajimite with the handle @lordphaj3804 tweeted at Oando (Oando_PLC) asking how many retweet could secure him employment with the Pan- African multinational energy corporation. Oando replied saying; "Unfortunately, we don't do RTs for employment, but we'll do 2,000 RTs for 1 month internship".

Olayinka Fajimiteg got to work, generated impressive publicity and earned over 2,000 retweets in just 4 hours. Oando PLC acknowledged his efforts and tweeted; "Congratulations @lordphaj3804! You just got yourself a one month internship with us. Please DM your email address".

Tweeting further Oando PLC said; "We admire your audacious spirit and tenacity, especially how you humbly rallied everyone to help reach your target. To success, you must have the audacity to start, and tenacity to complete any task or achieve and goal before you. #BeAudacious".

With this event, Gamification and Social HR has gained some popularity and i hope more recruiters adopt it, because lots of talents are lost through “unhuman” selection criteria like aptitude tests, age, class of degree and years of experience.

It is time to put “Human” back in Human Resources.

#BeAudacious
