YCP Job Fair 2016: A Maiden Success

It was an atmosphere of motivation, inspiration and opportunities as job seekers, young professionals and industry leaders converged at St. George’s School Compound, Falomo for the much anticipated YCP Job/Entrepreneurship Fair 2016. The Fair which held on Saturday 12th March was powered by the Young Catholic Professionals (YCP) of Church of The Assumption, Falomo, Lagos with technical support from Patfam Investment Limited.
Young Catholic Professionals (YCP) is a body of catholic professionals within the ages of 25 and 49 years, with a mission to sanctify young professionals through love and service using theirs professions as mission fields.

The fair featured inspiring talks from industry leaders like Mr. Chuka Eseka (MD/CEO, Vetiva Management Limited), who spoke on “Hope Is Not A Strategy, Take A Step” and Mr. Frank Momoh (GMD, Frot Group of Companies), who spoke passionately about “Starting Small And Finishing Big”.

While speaking, Mr. Frank Momoh made reference to his former classmate who started a small company, then grew it into a thriving food company called Red Oak Foods (makers of Red Oak Plantain chips). So, it was a joyous surprise when the MD of Red Oak Foods himself - Mr. Arthur Dumbi - came around and gave an impromptu, yet inspiring talk about how he started small with just N300 worth of plantain.

After the talks, representatives of various HR companies and employers of labour present, took the floor to relay the various vacancies available, then interviews and data collection commenced. The interview process was very smooth and effective as a participant I spoke with afterwards said she went through five interviews even though she didn’t stay till the end of the fair.

In a brief chat with Mr. Francis Obagwu, the head of logistics, he said; “The fair is the maiden edition, the Church not only caters for the spiritual needs of the society, but their economic needs also”.

Did i mention that there was food? Although refreshment was listed as one of the items on the programme of event, i was amazed when packages of Jollof rice with ogbonge (correct) beef and bottled water were handed to attendees. Having item 7 at a Job fair was very thoughtful of the organizers.

Yours truly, securing my Jollof rice

Overall, the fair was a success. I was inspired to see young professionals like the Job Fair committee chairman Mr. Kingsley Irumeh and members of the Job Fair committee working together tirelessly to ensure a fluid and hitch free event. Snippets of the event was relayed on twitter with the hashtag #YCPJobFair2016
